iBlog about Apple

Hooray for lame titles.

Interesting day on the Apple front. Was keeping track with the live blogging Engadget was doing of the event.

iPod Nano: Not to keen on the new iPod Nano’s, I mean they are small, and the bigger screen is good, but aesthetically I found the generation 1 Nano’s much nicer. They have gone for a fatter looking device with a slight bevel to the front (which I am also not overly keen on). The new colours however, do nothing for me.

iPod Shuffle: I actually really like the current generation of the shuffles, I keep looking at them every time I pass them in Walmart, they are just nicer compared to the previous model. Again the new colours (aside from the typical silver and the red one) just don’t get me going.

iPod Classic: I’m with chucker on this one, I agree it is nice to have a term to recognize the iPod that started it (well, a slightly evolved version of it anyway). I am disappointed to see they dropped the trademark white for it though.

iPhone: A price drop, cool (and needed IMO), I had been interested in the iPhone, unfortunately could not justify buying one as I do not use my phone enough to warrent it. This of course is now a moot point given that Apple announced the iPod Touch. Another issue I found was the 99 cents there we charging for a ring tone, or more if you end up basically having to pay for the same track twice. I’m not a big fan of fancy ring tones personally I find a lot of them annoying, but I have never been interested in how much they charge for these ring tones, iTunes or elsewhere.

iPod Touch: Or iTouch as I have taken to calling it. Big screen, Wifi, Safari, Wifi Store. It looks sweet I do admit I was interested in an upgrade the only problem? 16GB.
Yeah, not really going to cut it for me, given that my current iPod (30GB 5th Generation Video) was pushing over 19GB of content before it went splat. It does lack mail client as chucker pointed out, however unlike chucker I happen to like the new icon for the store.

I think I’ll be waiting a while longer before upgrading my iPod (not exactly in a hurry anyway), hopefully by then the iTouch will have a bigger storage capacity and a mail client of sorts.
