Vista = Big Brother?

Vista = Big Brother?

“PC users around the globe may find driver software is stopped from working by Vista if it detects unauthorised content access. Peter Guttman, a security engineering researcher at New Zealand’s university of Auckland, has written A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection. He reckons Vista is trying to achieve the impossible by protecting access to premium content. Users will find their PCs’ compromised by the persistent and continuous content access checks carried out by Vista.”

Soeren over at his blog has a few words to say about Peter Gutmann’s paper which should be considered when reading Gutmann’s paper.

WGA, or Windows Genuine Advantage, is indeed an anti-piracy component. However, that one is not tied to “system hardware components” at all, but only to your Internet connection. The author likely means WPA, or Windows Product Activation, which is indeed completely tied to your hardware.
- Soeren Says

Now I can understand the need for protection, but at the risk of crippling ones system is unwise. As more reports come out regarding Microsofts “security” the less likely I find myself considering an upgrade to Vista.

Jemendo

We at (pre)determined do love music so and are always on the look out to expand our musical horizons. So its no surprise that when a site like Jamendo pops up we do not fail to wander over and check it out.

Jamendo is a website with a revolutionary model that allows artists to promote and publish their music. Artist have the opportunity to show their creativity to a broader audience, and the public has a place to listen to, download, and share new music.

With 2000+ albums all tagged up in the various genre’s its pretty easy to find something you might be interested in and find new independent artists.

Burning Cursade

Burning Cursade

Burning Crusade

No it is not some sort of venereal disease caught from freaky little gnomes.

Blizzard released the Cinematic Trailer for the upcoming expansion back on the World of Warcraft site. I had seen this trailer a while ago after someone posted a video of it on YouTube, the video was from some game event with a live choir singing over the trailer that was being shown in the background. Anyway to the point, it looked damn nifty even if the video was of poor quality, but with Blizz releasing a HD version of the trailer I got to take a better look and damn, that is a freaking nice trailer.

We are definatly loving the sheeping and murloc frames.

Zenphoto 1.0.5

Zenphoto 1.0.5

It has been around 6 months since Tristan last released a verson of Zenphoto, and they we get 2 builds at the same time (ok so build 1.0.4 had a problem with short tags). I am exceptionally happy because with these builds comes a “stepping stone” to the implimentation of subalbums, a feature I have been greatly impatient to obtain.

It has yet to be fully implimented yet (which is apparently what will happen with buil 1.1) but the features are there for testing which I shall be experimenting with later. I might go ahead and upgrade the albums on DJC to use the new build if all looks well.
